Pay it forward by hiking forward.

The phrase hike it forward comes from the saying "pay it forward", where a person does a good deed without asking for anything in return. Instead of repaying the favor, the recipient of the good deed is encouraged to continue the cycle by doing something good for another person. We will begin the cycle by collecting trash along trails for the next few months, and ask that you help us pay it forward by donating to Washington Trails Association.

As a part of our graduation requirement as students in the International Baccalaureate program at Edmonds Woodway High School, we were challenged to create a project which encompassed creativity, action, and service. We looked for inspiration in our passion; we love to hike. Together, we've hiked over two hundred miles this summer. However, all of our miles and memories are thanks to those who built, maintain, and preserve Washington's trails. As a way of showing gratitude, we decided we could "hike" it forward with the intention of collecting as much trash from each trail and trailhead as possible. In the process we want to challenge others to pay it forward by donating to a worthwhile cause. From September 2016 to April 2017 we will be committing our free time to hiking and raising money on behalf of Washington Trails Association. We would like to make clear that ALL proceeds will be donated to WTA. In addition, we will be documenting and photographing our experiences, which will be posted under the link "Blog. We hope you enjoy seeing us hike in all sorts of weather, all over the state of Washington. We also hope you will help us make this project a success!

We will be blogging all of our wild adventures for our contributers and others to see our experiences. We will be updating our blog with each hike, including pictures and desricptions of the trails and desinations. In addition we will weigh and record the amount of trash removed from each location before properly diposing. Check out our blog to see and hear about our adventures throughout the year!

After each hike we will update this timeline, so that anyone will be able to see our trips! With each date we will record the amount of miles and trash collected! We hope our actions will inspire you to pay it foreward and donate to WTA!
